Ben Griffen and Andrew Novak celebrate first PGA Tour wins (Jonathan Bachman)

Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin clinched their first PGA Tour victories at the 2025 Zurich Classic of New Orleans this past weekend, finishing at 28-under-par to edge out Danish twins Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard, who shot an impressive 59 to start the tournament. The win earned each player $1,329,400 from the $9.2 million purse, along with 400 FedExCup points and two-year PGA Tour exemptions.

The tournament, held at TPC Louisiana from April 24–27, featured a unique team format alternating between fourball (best ball) and foursomes (alternate shot). To form the teams, one member of each team is initially chosen via the Tour priority rankings, and his partner must either be a PGA Tour member or earn entry through a sponsor exemption.

Novak and Griffin posted rounds of 62, 66, 61, and 71, maintaining their lead despite a challenging final round. Defending champions Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry tied for 12th at 22-under-par. Despite a strong start for the Irish pair, bogeys on the back nine hindered their title defense.

MIXED TEAM EVENT TO DEBUT AT 2028 OLYMPICS

Earlier this month the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the International Golf Federation’s (IGF) proposal for a mixed-team golf event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, as announced by the IGF on the same date.

The event, to be held at Riviera Country Club — the home of the Genesis Invitational — will feature 16 teams with one male and one female golfer, each already qualified for individual play, with a maximum of one team per country.

The 36-hole competition is scheduled for two days between the men's and women's individual tournaments, with an 18-hole foursomes (alternate shot) round on Sunday and an 18-hole four-ball (best ball) round on Monday.

IGF Executive Director Antony Scanlon emphasized the event’s role in enhancing golf’s Olympic appeal and supporting the IOC’s gender equality goals, marking the first Olympic golf team event since 1904.
