Akshay Bhatia clinched his 2nd PGA Tour victory at the Valero Texas Open in a thrilling sudden-death playoff against Denny McCarthy, securing the final spot in the Masters.

Despite initially holding a commanding six-shot lead, Bhatia faced a remarkable late surge from McCarthy, who birdied eight of the final nine holes (yes, you read that correctly) to tie the lead at 20-under par.

Bhatia's 11-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole forced the playoff, where he fought through a bizarre shoulder injury and defeat McCarthy on the first playoff hole.

The win secured the young lefty the final spot in the Masters next weekend, where many believe lefty’s may have an advantage based on winning history and the courses layout.

Clinching a spot at the Masters has special significance for the the 22-year old who competed in Augusta at the inaugural kids Drive Chip and Putt competition as a 12-year old. He’ll become the first to have competed in the Drive Chip and Putt competition as well as the Masters.

THE MASTERS STAGE IS SET

The best week in golf is finally here. This Thursday 89 golfers will tee off to compete in the 88th Masters event. The field is made up 84 professionals, 5 amatuers, 13 LIV golfers, and 18 prior masters champions to name a few.
