Sepp Straka falls just short of Sub-60 round on final hole, wins the John Deere Classic
July 11, 2023
SUB 60 HEADLINES
Sepp Straka claimed the John Deere Classic victory on Sunday, but it was his low-scoring final round that had everyone holding their breath.
Straka needed to finish just 1-under par in his final four holes to achieve the rare sub-60 feat (something we get very excited about here at Sub 60 Golf), but … after hitting the water with his approach shot on the 18th hole, all hopes of carding the elusive 59 were gone.
Needing a birdie at the last for a 59, Sepp Straka finds the water at the 18th and finishes with a double bogey. He still cards an impressive 62 and will wait to see if it's enough...

However, it wasn’t all bad for Straka. He still scored an impressively low round of 62 (his best tournament round ever!), enough to ultimately win the tournament by two strokes and cash out a cool $1.3 million dollar prize. This weekend is just a reminder to us all that golf is hard, even on your best day. Let’s repeat. Golf. Is. Hard.
WINNERS FROM LAST WEEK

U.S. ADAPTIVE OPEN
This week on July 10th-12th, Pinehurst No. 6 will host the second edition of the U.S. Adaptive Open. A field of 96 golfers with varying physical impairments will face off in a 54-hole tournament, where one male and one female will ultimately be crowned champions.
Defending champions Simon Lee and Kim Moore will be back to compete in this year’s event. The incredible stories behind some of the competing athletes like New Jersey’s Tyler Cashman (see tweet below), are truly inspiring to golfers everywhere. Good luck to all of this week’s competitors!
"As a 20-year-old blind golfer, my goal is to introduce other blind children to the sport and let them know there are opportunities out there."
New Jersey's Tyler Cashman wants more than a high finish in his #USAdaptiveOpen debut at @PinehurstResort. 🙌

A MOMENTOU$ MAJOR MOMENT
On Sunday, Allisen Corpuz won the 3rd Women’s Major of the year, the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach. The victory earned her a winning paycheck of $2 million dollars, claiming the biggest purse in women’s golf history (and more than the winning total on the PGA Tour this week). Well done, Allisen!
A championship Sunday to remember. 🏆
