Brennan closed with a Sunday 64 at Sedgefield Country Club to win the Wyndham Championship at 22-under 258, three shots clear of Beau Hossler and matching the tournament scoring record. The win was worth $1.53 million, 500 FedEx Cup points, and a rocket ride from No. 105 to No. 47 in the standings.

He was the only player all week to play his way inside the top 70, and the math was razor thin: entering at No. 105, anything worse than a top-two finish and his season was over. Further down the board, PGA Tour University No. 1 Ben James fired a Sunday 61 to steal solo third in just his rookie summer.

The bubble giveth, and the bubble taketh away. Keegan Bradley missed the playoffs for the first time since earning his card in 2011, and Jason Day watched an 18-year playoff streak end. Brooks Koepka (T70 in Greensboro) didn't sugarcoat his miss: "I think it's pretty pathetic that I can't get through."

Joaquin Niemann went wire to wire at LIV Golf New York, finishing at 16-under 268 for a three-shot win over Harold Varner III and a record ninth career LIV individual title. The $4 million payday was his second win of 2026.

The bigger trophy went to a guy who tied for 41st. Jon Rahm stumbled home with a Sunday 76, his worst LIV finish ever, yet still clinched a third straight season-long points title. Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC grabbed the team crown, their record 11th.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs begin Thursday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship (Aug 13–16) at TPC Southwind, where the top 70 chase a $20 million purse. Scottie Scheffler arrives as the points leader and favorite, Rory McIlroy starts the playoffs outside the top 10 for the first time since 2021 while chasing a record fourth FedEx Cup, and Justin Rose defends the title he won in a playoff last year at age 45. TPC Southwind in August is a pressure cooker in every sense, and only the top 50 punch a ticket out of Memphis onto the BMW Championship.
