Nick Taylor secured his fifth PGA Tour victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii this past weekend by winning a dramatic playoff against Nico Echavarria. Taylor, from Canada, forced the playoff with a chip-in eagle on the par-5 18th hole to tie the lead, finishing regulation play with a 5-under 65.

Both players matched birdies on the first playoff hole, also the 18th, leading to a second playoff hole where Taylor's superb pitch shot set up a birdie from three feet, while Echavarria missed a seven-footer, handing Taylor the win.

This victory marks Taylor's third consecutive win in a playoff, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. With this win, Taylor qualifies for the Masters and PGA Championship, and he moves to 29th in the Official World Golf Ranking, securing spots in all the remaining Signature Events for the season.

TGL WEEK ONE IN THE BOOKS

In the TGL's opening night last week, The Bay Golf Club made a powerful statement with a commanding 9-2 victory over New York GC at the SoFi Center. Led by Ludvig Åberg, who set the tone with an early birdie, TBGC quickly built a 6-0 lead through eight holes and never looked back.

The fast-paced format, featuring a 40-second shot clock, kept the action moving with shots coming every 15-20 seconds, while the intimate venue setting captured players' genuine reactions and excitement.

Åberg emerged as the star of the night, sinking spectacular putts that even left Tiger Woods amazed, and the match concluded after just 10 holes in Singles play, showcasing the dynamic new format's potential to bring fresh energy to professional golf.

Week 2 begins tonight at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN when Tiger Woods makes his first start for Jupiter Links Golf Club against Collin Morikawa and Los Angeles Golf Club.
