SUB 60 HEADLINES

Chris Gotterup is officially the hottest player in golf. The 26-year-old captured the WM Phoenix Open in a playoff over Hideki Matsuyama, finishing at 16-under par to claim his second win in just three starts this season. Gotterup trailed by five shots with six holes to play before birdieing five of his final six to post a closing 64. Matsuyama needed only a par on 18 to win outright but found the bunker off the tee and made bogey. In the playoff, Gotterup drained a 27-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole for the win and the $1,728,000 first-place check. He now leads the FedExCup standings.

Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler had quite a rollercoaster. The World No. 1 opened with a 2-over 73—his first over-par round since June 2025—then stormed back with a bogey-free Sunday 64 to finish T3.

Over on the LIV Golf circuit, Elvis Smylie made history at LIV Golf Riyadh—the league’s first-ever 72-hole event and first to award OWGR points. The 23-year-old Australian fired four rounds of 64 or better to finish at 24-under, one shot clear of Jon Rahm. Smylie won $4,000,000 in his LIV debut, and his Ripper GC squad took the team title. Not bad for a guy who signed with the league barely a month ago.

NEXT ON TEE

The first Signature Event of 2026 arrives this week with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Feb 12–15). The $20 million purse and 80-player, no-cut field brings out the big guns—Rory McIlroy makes his 2026 PGA Tour debut as the defending champion, alongside Scheffler, Matsuyama, and red-hot Gotterup. LIV Golf heads to Adelaide (Feb 12–15), and the Chubb Classic kicks off the Champions Tour season at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples.
