Harman's Heroics: Texas Triumph Tees Up Masters Week

Lefty locks up victory before Augusta arrival

April 8, 2025

SUB 60 HEADLINES

On a Sunday that felt more like ski season than golf season, Brian Harman battled through black-diamond conditions to win the Valero Texas Open, his first title since The Open Championship last year. The 38-year-old Georgian braved 40-degree wind chills, cactus-lined rough, and a final-round 75—the highest winning score of the season—to finish at 9-under, three clear of runner-up Ryan Gerard.

Harman leaned on experience and grit, calling the round a “game of attrition.” He scrambled hard (18-for-28), never three-putted with his new TaylorMade Spider putter, and made just enough birdies to outlast a leaderboard full of challengers and gusts.

It wasn’t pretty. But it was pure. With the win, Harman picked up 500 FedExCup points, a boost heading into Augusta—and maybe a little love from Texas, too.

AUGUSTA AWAITS AGAIN

The season’s first major is here. Scottie Scheffler, reigning FedExCup champ, returns to Augusta chasing his third green jacket in four years, looking to become the first back-to-back Masters winner since Tiger in 2001–02.

Rory McIlroy arrives with two wins already in 2025 and leads the TOUR in scoring. It's another shot at the career Grand Slam. Can he finally complete it?

Xander Schauffele looks for his third major win in the last four, while rising stars Ludvig Åberg, Viktor Hovland, and Russell Henley aim for their first. Augusta marks the 10-year anniversary of Jordan Spieth’s 2015 win—he returns with flashes of form and plenty of Augusta magic in his past.

Augusta National remains largely unchanged despite some tree loss from Hurricane Helene. The course, as always, will be a test. The winner takes 750 FedExCup points and a place in history. Let the chase for the green jacket begin.
