SUB 60 HEADLINES

Team USA looked home free at Lahinch. A 4-0 sweep of Sunday morning’s foursomes, their first clean session since 2007, built a 9½-6½ cushion. The Americans needed just 3½ points from the afternoon’s 10 singles matches to retain the Walker Cup.

Then the wind came off the Atlantic, and so did GB&I (Great Britain & Ireland). The home side won the singles session 7-3, highlighted by U.S. Amateur champ Jack Whaley’s 8&7 demolition of William Jennings (the largest singles margin at the Walker Cup in 47 years). Josh Hill sealed it, getting up and down from a bunker on 18 to beat world No. 2 amateur Tyler Watts 1-up. Final: GB&I 13½, USA 12½, the biggest comeback in the Cup’s history and GB&I’s first title since 2015.

USA captain Nathan Smith took it well. “It was a tale of two days,” he said, calling the opposition “a great and deep team, capable of anything.”

KOIVUN COMES CALLING

The Presidents Cup rosters are set at 12 apiece, and the story is a 21-year-old three months into his pro career. U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker spent his last pick on Jackson Koivun (yes, the same Koivun we watched go low and win in July), joining fellow debutants Jacob Bridgeman and Chris Gotterup, plus Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas.

They round out automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Russell Henley, Sam Burns and Collin Morikawa. Geoff Ogilvy’s Internationals get their shot September 24–27 at Medinah.

NEXT ON THE TEE

Rare silence across the sport: the PGA Tour is on its scheduled bye between the FedExCup Playoffs and the Fall opener, LIV wrapped its season early at Indianapolis, the LPGA was dark ahead of the Solheim Cup (September 11–13 at Bernardus in the Netherlands), and PGA Tour Champions is idle until the Sanford International tees off that same week.

It doesn’t last: the FedExCup Fall opens September 17–20 at the brand-new Biltmore Championship, and Presidents Cup week follows at Medinah.

SUB 60 GOLF FANTASY

This week, Sub 60 Golf Fantasy stays quiet with the official end to the regular season and FedEx Cup playoffs. However, that just means there is extra time to gear up for the PGA Tour Fall season, beginning in one week.

Plus, at the end of next month, we’ll have a special President’s Cup format you won’t want to miss! Sign up at fantasy.sub60golf.com now, invite your friends, and be ready to go when the calendar turns.
