Viktor Hovland set a new course record on Sunday at the BMW Championship. (Brian Spurlock / Getty Images)
Viktor Hovland overcame a three-shot deficit to win by two on Sunday, besting Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick. Trailing for most of the day, Hovland shot a remarkable 29 on the back nine, en route to a course-record 61.
The win marks his 5th career victory on the PGA Tour and his second this season. Additionally, the 2,000 FedEx Cup points vault him into second place in the FedEx Cup Standings providing him a big advantage in next week’s Tour finale. More on that later.

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS
TOUR Championship week is here! Now let’s recap how we got here ➡️
✅ The Regular Season ended with the Top 70 players in FedEx Cup points advancing to Round 1 of the playoffs in Memphis.
✅ After Memphis, the Top 50 in FedEx Cup Points advanced on to Round 2 in Chicago.
✅ After Chicago (this past week), the Top 30 in FedEx Cup points now move on to Atlanta this week, where Round 3 will commence and the Tour Champ will be crowned.
Championship Format 🏆️
This week’s format will be slightly different as it features “FedExCup Starting Strokes”, where the top players will be given an advantage by strokes to recognize their regular season and first two playoff event performances (think of this similar to home-field advantage in other sports).

Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, and Rory McIlroy are the top 3 players heading into round 1 of the Championship event and will start the tournament at -10, -8, and -7 strokes under par, respectively (see the full list and starting position in the tweet below). May the best man win.
