Start No. 100 was the one. Austin Smotherman closed with a 3-under 68 at Black Desert Resort to win the Bank of Utah Championship by two shots over Doug Ghim, his first PGA Tour title.

His 26-under 258 broke the tournament's 72-hole record, and he never trailed. He built a three-shot lead early, helped by a 35-foot birdie on the 5th. Then came a double bogey on the par-4 13th that cut the margin to one. Smotherman answered with birdies on 14 and 16. Ghim, meanwhile, three-putted from 30 feet on 13 and missed a six-foot par putt on 15.

The payoff is big: $1,080,000, 500 FedExCup Fall points, an exemption through 2028, and invitations to The Players Championship and the PGA Championship in 2027. He arrived ranked 79th in the FedExCup and now sits 51st. Trace Crowe and David Ford tied for third at 23-under, with Kevin Streelman and Ben James T5 at 22-under.

THITIKUL SURVIVES A SCARE IN HAWAII

Jeeno Thitikul made the LOTTE Championship at Hoakalei Country Club a little harder than she needed to. She double-bogeyed the 16th, then answered with birdies on 17 and 18 to close with a 68 and win by three over Ina Yoon at 21-under. It is her fourth win of 2026 and 11th on the LPGA Tour. Miyu Yamashita was third at 17-under.

NEXT ON THE TEE: BAYCURRENT CLASSIC

The PGA Tour heads to Japan for the Baycurrent Classic, October 8-11 at Yokohama Country Club: $8 million, a 72-player field, and no cut. Xander Schauffele is the defending champion.

The Champions tour plays the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, October 9-11 at The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach in Palm Coast, Florida. The LPGA is off until the Buick LPGA Shanghai, October 15-18.

Smotherman entered Utah ranked 79th in the FedExCup and left with a trophy, a reminder that the winner is not always the name at the top of your Tier A list. That is the fun of the Baycurrent Classic, where a no-cut, 72-man field means every pick plays all four rounds.
