In a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 Masters Tournament, Rory McIlroy clinched his first green jacket and completed the career Grand Slam, becoming only the sixth golfer in history to win all four major championships.

The 35-year-old from Northern Ireland outlasted Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff on Sunday at Augusta National. McIlroy’s final round was a rollercoaster; he started with a double bogey, surged to a four-shot lead, but faltered with a double bogey on the 13th and a bogey on the 18th, finishing at 11-under 277 alongside Rose.

In the playoff, McIlroy’s precise wedge shot to three feet on the 18th set up a winning birdie, while Rose missed his attempt.

This victory, McIlroy’s fifth major and first since 2014, ended an 11-year quest for the Masters title after 17 attempts. His emotional celebration reflected years of pressure, with standout shots like a hooked approach on the 15th and a clutch birdie on the 17th.

McIlroy joined legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, while also cementing his legacy as the first European to achieve the Grand Slam.
