Tom Kim held off a late push from Adam Hadwin on Sunday to defend his title at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas. With the win, Kim accomplishes a unique set of “seconds”:

  • Second Player to win the same tournament within the same PGA Season — only made possible due to the rare change from a wrap-around schedule to a calendar-based schedule.

  • Second Player to defend a title this PGA season — Scottie Scheffler at the WM Open was the only other player to do it.

  • Second Youngest Player to defend a PGA Tour title — Only John McDermott who defended the US Open Title in 1912 was younger.

  • Second Player since World War II to win his 3rd PGA Tour title by age 21 — Tiger Woods in 1997 was the other to accomplish the feat.

So what does a 21-year-old PGA star do to celebrate this 3rd win on the Tour in Las Vegas? Watch the tweet below to find out. 🍫

LIV INDIVIDUAL TITLE

Talor Gooch was narrowly defeated in a playoff by Brooks Koepka on Sunday. However, his second-place finish was enough to secure him the season-long Individual LIV Tour Title.

The title earned Gooch an astounding $18 million bonus. Across 13 events this season, Gooch won three times and picked up five top-10 finishes worth $15 million in individual earnings. In all, his total winnings for the year totaled more than $30 million.

LIV GOLF DENIED OFFICIAL WORLD GOLF RANKING POINTS

This week, LIV Golf was once again denied the chance to receive Official World Golf Ranking points. The decision has the golf world divided on its implications and ramifications moving forward.

One side argues LIV knew the rules and standards set to receive ranking points from the beginning and should have looked for every way to comply when they set out on their own. The other side argues that it doesn’t matter what league you play in, if you claim to be the official golf ranking system of the world, then you should probably find a way to rank all golfers in the world fairly.

There is a group of golf fans trying their best to address the issue of LIV golfers not receiving Official World Ranking points. TUGR (The Universal Golf Ratings) is a formula-based ranking that doesn’t assign points based on what tour, field, or courses you play. Rather, its focus is on using advanced analytics to give every golfer a relavent ranking based on the over 500 head-to-head matchups that naturally occur over a year of professional golf.

So far, the results are compelling. Can they gain enough traction to influence actual change in the OWGR structure? Only time will tell.

HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPOS

Well, that escalated quickly! This scene at a golf course in Africa certainly isn’t something you come across every day . . . oddly enough, the golfers witnessing the event seemed plenty calm. On second thought, perhaps this is exactly what they come across everyday.
