"Lucky" Lefty MacIntyre Secures Scottish Open

A Fortunate Ruling Fuels MacIntyre's Scottish Open Victory

Robert MacIntyre bested PGA veteran Adam Scott on Sunday as he sank a clutch 22-foot putt making birdie on the 18th hole in front of an electrifying hometown Scottish crowd. With the win, his second in just five tournaments, the Scotland native fulfilled his life-long dream of winning the Scottish Open, especially after being edged out by Rory McIlroy last year.

The lefty found himself a bit of luck on the 16th hole after his drive sent him straight into the deep fescue. “It was just a lucky break”, he recalls. Upon examining the lie of the ball, MacIntyre said to himself '“No way — I’ve got a sprinkler underneath my foot”. MacIntyre was allowed to take relief, and proceeded to hit a dart to just 6 feet of the pin, setting him up for an eagle. “You use the rules to get advantage. You stand on a sprinkler, you’re due relief. That was just the one kiss I needed”.

WELCOME TO OPEN WEEK

For the 10th time, Royal Troon will host the 152nd Open Championship. The challenging 7,385-yard, par-71 links course “forged by nature” is famed for its difficult layout, which includes a 622 yard par-5 and the short "Postage Stamp" par-3 measured at just 123 yards. See the X post below to hear how players feel about the Royal Troon in just one word.

The 156 player field comprising of 12 amateurs and 19 prior Open Champions is set to tee off this Thursday. There hasn’t been a repeat winner at The Open since 2008 when Padraig Harrington won it in back to back years. Henrik Stenson was the last to win at Royal Troon, while Brian Harmon won The Open in 2023. Who do you have winning this year?

Set your alarms early to follow all the drama at this year’s Open Championship and find out who will be bringing home the coveted Claret Jug.
