Matt McCarty's meteoric rise in professional golf reached new heights on Sunday as he clinched his first PGA TOUR title at the Black Desert Championship in Ivins, Utah.
The 26-year-old left-hander from Arizona, who started the year on the Korn Ferry Tour, secured a three-shot victory with a final round 4-under 67. McCarty's win was highlighted by a spectacular eagle on the 310-yard 14th hole, where his 3-wood approach shot settled just 3 1/2 feet from the cup, effectively sealing his triumph.

This victory caps off an extraordinary year for McCarty, who earned an instant promotion to the PGA TOUR in August after winning three times on the Korn Ferry Tour. With this win, he becomes the first player since Jason Gore to achieve such a feat in the same season.
The triumph not only earned McCarty $1.35 million but also secured his spots in three of next year's majors - the Masters, PGA Championship, and U.S. Open. As McCarty put it, "It's just been a crazy last few months for me," underscoring the rapid ascent of this rising star in the golf world.

The Shriners Children's Open tees off this week at TPC Summerlin, with Tom Kim eyeing a historic three-peat in Las Vegas. As the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Fall heats up, players like Michael Thorbjornsen and Vince Whaley battle for top-125 status, while sponsor exemptions bring fresh talent to the field.
With 500 FedExCup points up for grabs and TOUR cards on the line, the desert layout promises low scores and high drama. Catch the action Thursday through Sunday on Golf Channel, as the race for the 2024 season intensifies on one of the TOUR's most visually stunning courses.
Sadly, I think some of us would have won this trying to win a long drive competition 🤫
