Grayson Murray emerged victorious at the Sony Open Sunday by draining an incredible 39-foot putt during a three-man playoff against Keegan Bradley and Byeong Hun An.

The win ended a nearly six-year drought and follows a period of golfing challenges for Murray, including a scooter accident that led to his withdrawal from the Bermuda Championship in 2022. After that, Murray's world ranking plummeted to as low as No. 803.

Despite reported conflicts, including a heated exchange with Rory McIlroy last year, Murray has experienced a significant turnaround, winning twice in his last 13 professional starts, including the Simmons Bank Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. The hot start to 2024 marks his return to the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time since 2017.

DUEL IN DUBAI

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, two golf heavyweights were battling it out at the DP World Tour event in Dubai.

Rory McIlroy suffered a rare defeat at the Dubai Invitational, marked by a surprising three-putt on the 14th hole (from 2-feet away!). Despite regaining the lead with birdies, he faltered on the 18th, allowing Tommy Fleetwood to seize the 1-stroke victory.

Fleetwood, ending a year-long dry spell, praised McIlroy's play but expressed satisfaction with his own performance. McIlroy attributed the mistakes to the early season.

Despite the loss, he remains in Dubai for the upcoming Dubai Desert Classic, where he is the defending champion and a three-time winner.
