TGL Rings in 2026 Season While Major Tours Take Traditional Holiday Break
December 30, 2025

SUB 60 HEADLINES
As you prepare to ring in 2026, the golf world is in its annual New Year's pause—no official PGA TOUR, LIV Golf, LPGA, or Champions Tour action this week as all major tours remain in their traditional off-season break. But Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's tech-forward TGL league kicked off Season 2 with Sunday night theatrics to give us something to toast.
Atlanta Drive GC defeated New York Golf Club 5-4 on Sunday night at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, with Billy Horschel draining a 37-foot putt on the final hole to seal the victory. The match—TGL's first on broadcast network ABC—featured upgraded tech including a 38% larger putting green and 79 cameras capturing every angle. Atlanta's lineup of Chris Gotterup, Corey Conners, and Horschel outlasted New York's trio of Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick in a rematch of last year's championship.
Justin Thomas missed the opener while recovering from November back surgery. Tiger Woods attended as team owner but hasn't played since his October disc replacement surgery. TGL's next match is this Friday, January 2, with Boston Common Golf vs. Los Angeles Golf Club—your first chance to watch golf in the new year.
YEAR-END SHAKE-UP
In the week's biggest news as 2025 winds down, Brooks Koepka announced December 23 he's stepping away from LIV Golf, citing family reasons. The five-time major champion mutually terminated his contract with one year remaining.
Koepka struggled in 2025, finishing 31st in points. His path back to the PGA TOUR remains unclear—he'd need to reapply for membership and serve a one-year waiting period. What a way to close out the year.
TIGER'S GOLDEN MILESTONE
Tiger Woods reaches the half-century mark on December 30—yes, today—making him eligible for PGA Tour Champions as we flip the calendar to 2026. The 15-time major champion had his seventh back surgery in October and is currently cleared only for chipping and putting.
No timeline exists for his return to competition, but Champions Tour officials say they're "well prepared" should he decide to play. Fifty never looked so good.
