After Recent Struggles, Hovland Finds His Way Back to the Top
March 25, 2025
SUB 60 HEADLINES

Viktor Hovland is back on top, after claiming the Valspar Championship in a nail-biting finish at Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course for his 7th PGA Tour victory this weekend.
The Norwegian sensation ended his 18-month PGA Tour drought with an impressive 11-under-par performance, capped by a final-round 67 that edged out Justin Thomas. Hovland trailed Justin Thomas entering the “Snake Pit”—Copperhead’s infamous closing trio—when a birdie on the 16th and a clutch 12-footer on the 17th propelled him past Thomas, who stumbled with late bogeys to finish in 2nd place.

After a rough patch—three missed cuts, including carding an 80 at The Players—Hovland’s reunion with coach Grant Waite paid off big time. The win nets him $1.56 million, 500 FedEx Cup points, and a hefty dose of redemption. “It’s still not great” he commented in reference to his swing after the win, but it appears he’s figuring something out.
Hovland fans are hoping he can get back to his 2023 season form where he won the TOUR championship and was at one point 3rd in the Official World Golf Rankings.

H-TOWN WELCOMES GOLF’S ELITE
The PGA TOUR heads to the Lone Star State for a two-week Texas swing, beginning this week with the Texas Children's Houston Open at Memorial Park. Stephan Jaeger returns to defend his maiden PGA TOUR title, but faces formidable challenges from world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who narrowly missed forcing a playoff last year with a 5-foot putt on the final hole, and world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who enters fresh off his PLAYERS Championship victory.

McIlroy currently leads the FedExCup standings with two wins already this season as he prepares for the Masters. They'll compete on the dramatically renovated municipal course (par-70, 7,475 yards) that welcomed the TOUR back in 2019 after nearly 60 years.
Other notable entrants this week include Tony Finau, who tied the course record with a 62 and won this event in 2022, and Wyndham Clark making his return from injury. Meanwhile, promising amateur Noah Kent makes his TOUR debut, while Rickie Fowler, Jake Knapp, and Michael Kim all aim for strong showings to secure Masters invitations by climbing into the world's top 50.
