McIlory wins 24th career PGA Tour victory ahead of golf's final major

Rory McIlroy hit one of the season's best shots Sunday, setting up a tournament-winning birdie on the final hole of the Genesis Scottish Open. The win was Rory’s 2nd victory on Tour this year and the 24th of his career. He now shifts his focus to Royal Liverpool, the site of his last major and Open Championship win in 2014.

Meanwhile, over on the PGA Champions Tour, Steve Stricker not-so-quietly won his THIRD senior major of the year. The Kaulig Companies Championship (more commonly known as the Sr. Players Championship) was hosted at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, where Stricker beat the field by 3 strokes and earned a spot into next year’s Players Championship.

Finally, in a rare double-header week for the PGA Tour, rookie Vincent Norrman secured his first PGA Tour victory by winning the Barbasol Championship in a playoff. The win secured him 300 FedEx Cup points and launched him up 54 spots in the FedEx Cup standings, to 61st.

BUZZER BEATER FROM DOWNTOWN

It may be July, but Steph Curry was in postseason-NBA-Finals form on Sunday, draining an eagle putt on the 18th hole to win the American Century Championship.

Curry became the first active athlete to win the event in 23 years. The long-standing celebrity golf tournament (hosted in Lake Tahoe) featured 93 total competitors — with 19 active athletes (NBA, NFL, NHL, WWE) and 17 Hall of Famers among them.

As if that weren’t enough, Curry shocked the world with his second-ever hole-in-one, splashing this ace in from 152 yards out on Saturday.

COURSE OF THE WEEK

This week, the golfing world shifts its focus to the year's final major, where Royal Liverpool will host the 151st Open Championship. This links course opened in 1869 and has hosted 12 prior Open Championships, crowning champions such as Walter Hagen, Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy.
