Scottie Scheffler captured his first PGA Championship and third major title with a commanding five-shot victory at Quail Hollow Club despite losing a five-shot lead during the final round. The world No. 1 entered Sunday with a three-stroke advantage, which he extended to five on the front nine before a rough stretch allowed Jon Rahm to catch him. But Scheffler responded brilliantly on the back nine, posting three birdies to pull away from the field while Rahm faltered down the stretch.

After starting 2025 with multiple top-10 finishes but no victories, Scottie Scheffler has now won twice in May alone. His commanding performance last week at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, where he tied the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record in his hometown event, seemingly set the stage for his success at Quail Hollow.

Scheffler’s latest major triumph adds another chapter to his remarkable career trajectory. At just 28 years old, he now stands halfway to a career Grand Slam, needing only the U.S. Open and Open Championship to complete the set. His consistent excellence in major championships has established him as the game’s preeminent player.

U.S. OPEN NEXT MAJOR ON DECK

With two majors complete, the golf world now turns its attention to the U.S. Open, which will be played at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh from June 12-15.

The historic Pennsylvania venue has hosted the national championship nine times previously, most recently in 2016 when Dustin Johnson claimed his first major title.

Known for its lightning-fast greens, deep bunkers, and punishing rough, Oakmont ranks among the most challenging courses in America. The par-70 layout will provide a stern examination for the world’s best players, with Scheffler undoubtedly entering as the favorite given his current form.

Before the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour schedule includes the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial, the RBC Canadian Open, and the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village—providing players ample opportunity to fine-tune their games ahead of the season’s third major championship.
