The R&A and the USGA, concerned about the increasing distance golf balls can be hit, are facing a decision on how to address the issue for the future of the sport.

R&A CEO Martin Slumbers emphasized the urgency of the matter recently, stating that they will make their decision public before the end of the year.

The proposed Model Local Rule (MLR) to address ball distance in elite competitions faced criticism, prompting ongoing discussions, while other aspects of the game, such as the Open Qualifying Series and decisions regarding the Asian Tour, are also under consideration.
