At 150-to-1, almost no one had Aaron Rai. The double-gloved Englishman closed in 6-under over his final 10 holes — capped by a 68-foot bomb on the par-3 17th — to win the 108th PGA Championship at Aronimink by three shots at 9-under 271.

It's his first major, second career PGA Tour win, and the first Wanamaker won by an Englishman since Jim Barnes in 1919. Rai banked $3.69 million from a record $20.5 million purse and rocketed from 44th to 15th in the world.

Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley shared second at 6-under. Smalley led by two entering Sunday before a double bogey on the 6th cracked the door — and 22 players within four shots through 54 holes promptly kicked it down.

THE GRAND SLAM GRAVEYARD

Aronimink was supposed to be the stage for history of a different kind. Rory McIlroy's calendar Grand Slam bid stalled in round one (74) and never recovered (T-7). Jordan Spieth's career Slam wait extends another year (T-18). And defending champion Scottie Scheffler couldn't buy a putt, finishing T-14 and likely ending his streak of six straight major top-10s.

The Donald Ross gem — restored by Gil Hanse in 2018 — became the first venue to host all three of the PGA of America's rotating major championships, with Rai shaking hands with 90-year-old Gary Player (the last PGA winner here in 1962) at the trophy ceremony.

NEXT ON THE TEE: THE BYSON NELSON

Scottie Scheffler - 2025 Byron Nelson Champion

The Tour heads to TPC Craig Ranch for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson (May 21-24). Defending champ Scheffler set the tour's 72-hole scoring record here last year (31-under, tying for the lowest 72-hole total since 1983). Spieth, Si Woo Kim, and Tony Finau headline the chase.
