Xander Schauffele won his second major title of the year, claiming The Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club. With a stellar final-round 65 - the lowest score of the day by two shots - Schauffele outpaced Justin Rose and Billy Horschel by two strokes, securing his ninth PGA TOUR victory.

This win cemented Schauffele's reputation as a formidable closer and multiple major champion, overcoming past struggles and silencing doubters questioning his ability to perform on Sundays.
Only 13 players made the cut at all four majors this year. 🤯
Any surprises?

Schauffele's victory was marked by consistency and calm under pressure, especially on a challenging back nine where he birdied four holes to pull away from the field. He credited his previous major win at the PGA Championship for giving him a sense of calmness during the crucial moments.

Following his PGA Championship win earlier this year, his success at The Open established him as a top contender in golf's elite circles. With two majors under his belt, Schauffele now looks ahead to defending his Olympic gold medal in Paris and potentially challenging for a career Grand Slam.
His recent performances also positioned him as a serious rival to Scottie Scheffler for the PGA TOUR's top honors, including the FedExCup and the Jack Nicklaus Award for Player of the Year.
AMERICAN SWEEP 🇺🇸
Xander Schauffele's victory at The Open in 2024 marked a historic moment in golf, ensuring that Americans won all four major championships in a calendar year for the first time since 1982.
This feat narrowly missed occurring during Tiger Woods' famous "Tiger Slam" in 2000-2001, when Vijay Singh of Fiji won the 2000 Masters, preventing a clean sweep for American golfers in a single calendar year. The 1982 American sweep included Craig Stadler (Masters), Tom Watson (U.S. Open and Open Championship), and Raymond Floyd (PGA Championship).
For the first time in 42 years, American golfers have swept all four men's majors in a year.

In 1982, when this last occurred, the world was quite different: Wayne Gretzky set an NHL record with 92 goals in a single season, Joe Montana led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl victory, and "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" dominated the box office.
The 42-year gap between American sweeps of the majors underscores the increasing global competitiveness of golf and makes Schauffele's contribution to this achievement all the more remarkable.
DUNLAP DELIVERS
While the world's top golfers battled at The Open Championship in Scotland, 20-year-old Nick Dunlap made history at the concurrent Barracuda Championship in the US. Dunlap became the first player in PGA TOUR history to win as both an amateur and a professional in the same year, following his amateur victory at The American Express in January with a professional win at the Barracuda.

In a thrilling Sunday performance, Dunlap overcame a nine-point deficit using the Modified Stableford scoring system, sealing his victory with a crucial 55-foot eagle putt.
Unlike his amateur win, this triumph comes with a substantial paycheck and significantly boosts his FedEx Cup standing from 95th to 63rd. As Dunlap savors both the glory and the financial rewards of his professional status, his rapid rise sets the stage for an exciting playoff run and hints at a promising career ahead.
