Father-Son Duo Shatters Records at PNC Championship in Emotional Season Finale before Christmas
December 23, 2025

SUB 60 HEADLINES
Matt Kuchar and his 18-year-old son Cameron delivered a record-breaking performance at the PNC Championship this weekend, closing out the calendar year with an unforgettable victory. The father-son duo finished at 33-under par, shattering the previous tournament record by five strokes and winning by a dominant seven-shot margin at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando.
Their final-round 54 (-18) set yet another record, capping a weekend that included 14 birdies, two eagles, and just two pars on Sunday. The Kuchars walked away with $200,000 and left the field in the dust—Davis Love III/Dru Love and John Daly/John Daly II tied for second at 26-under.
The win carried deep personal significance. Matt's father, Peter Kuchar, passed away unexpectedly in February 2025, and the veteran PGA Tour pro fought back tears on the 18th green. "I know Pops is giving big fist pumps up in the sky," Kuchar said after nearly holing out for albatross before giving Cameron the honor of tapping in for eagle. Cameron, who has committed to play at TCU next fall, showcased why he's ranked 24th in the Rolex AJGA rankings.
The PNC Championship, while unofficial and awarding no FedEx Cup or world ranking points, remains one of golf's most beloved holiday traditions—and this year's edition won't soon be forgotten.
ALOHA TO THE 2026 SEASON
The Sony Open in Hawaii has been elevated to season-opening status after The Sentry at Kapalua was cancelled due to drought conditions. The tournament runs January 12-18 at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, with competition rounds January 15-18.
Nick Taylor (Canada) returns as defending champion after his dramatic 2025 victory, where he holed a chip-in eagle on 72 to force a playoff before defeating Nico Echavarría. Taylor will face a full field of 120 players competing for a $9.1 million purse on the 7,044-yard, par-70 layout.
Waialae rewards precision over power—narrow fairways, small greens, and steady trade winds make this one of the Tour's great equalizers. With The Sentry's cancellation removing the traditional limited-field season opener, the Sony Open becomes even more significant for players seeking early FedEx Cup momentum.
OFF-SEASON STATUS UPDATE
With the PNC wrapped, professional golf enters full holiday hibernation mode. The LPGA Tour finished its season November 23 when Jeeno Thitikul defended her CME Group Tour Championship title. The PGA Tour Champions concluded November 16 with Stewart Cink winning both the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and season-long title. LIV Golf ended way back on August 24—Jon Rahm claimed his second straight Individual Championship despite not winning a single regular-season event.
The PGA Tour's 2026 season officially begins in three weeks. Until then, it's a quiet stretch for golf fans—perfect timing to catch up on family, leftovers, and reflection on a banner 2025 season.
