Scottie Scheffler delivered a historic comeback performance this weekend in Paris to secure the Gold Medal for the USA. Scheffler started the final round four shots behind leaders Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele on Sunday and even trailed by 7 strokes at one point, but his unforgettable course-record-tying 62 was enough for him to take home the gold medal.

Scheffler became very emotional after the win, breaking down in tears during the U.S. national anthem which highlighted the personal significance of this achievement. While he modestly downplays thoughts of his legacy, Scheffler's Olympic gold medal performance places him among the greats in U.S. sports history.
When asked about the importance of the win, Scheffler went on to say, “It’s pretty high up there, anytime you’re able to represent your country is pretty special. This was a fun week and it was great representing the USA, and I’m proud to be going home with a medal.”

The Olympic gold comes in addition to 6 PGA Tour wins for Scheffler this season including wins at both The Masters and The Players. Combining his on-course success with the birth of his first child, to say 2024 has been a good year for the 28-year-old would be a massive understatement.

Jon Rahm was in an excellent position to take the podium on Sunday at the Paris Olympics as he started the final round in the lead (-14), but his game collapsed with a series of costly mistakes on the back nine.
Rahm finished tied for fifth, which was a major disappointment for the Spaniard who had a 3-shot lead with just 9 holes left. A 3-putt on 11, a double on the 14th, and bogeys on the last two holes were too much to overcome to bring home a medal.

Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee said Rahm’s Collapse at the Olympics was “one of the biggest collapses, chokes of the year [and] right up there with Rory’s McIlroy at the U.S. Open. The harsh criticism comes for Rahm who already has had a very lackluster year overall since joining LIV.
Rahm went on to say “I think by losing today, I’m getting a much deeper appreciation of what this tournament means to me than if I had won any medal,” he said. “I’m getting a taste of how much it really mattered. I’ve been very honored to represent Spain in many, many different events, and to not get this one done stings quite a bit.”
Which of your golf buddies are you trusting with this shot? 😉
