The 24-year-old drained a 26-footer on the 72nd hole to punctuate his first PGA Tour victory, worth $1.8 million. It marks the third straight week a first-time winner has lifted a trophy.

Thorbjornsen entered the week at No. 69 in the FedEx Cup, squarely on the playoff bubble. He leaves with a two-year exemption, spots in the 2027 Players, Masters, and PGA Championship, and a guaranteed playoff berth. Not bad for a Sunday's work.

The 2024 PGA Tour University valedictorian started the final round three back of Davis Riley, then poured in four birdies over a six-hole stretch on the back nine while Riley faded. It was also a fitting send-off for Detroit: Rocket Mortgage declined to renew, closing the book on the event after eight editions.

At Royal Lytham & St Annes, 23-year-old Shiho Kuwaki captured the AIG Women's Open for her first LPGA title and first major, outlasting Esther Henseleit on the second playoff hole after Henseleit's tee shot ricocheted off a marshal and into a bush.

Kuwaki becomes the second straight Japanese champion of the event and takes home $1.5 million.

The regular season ends this week at the Wyndham Championship (Aug 5–9), where Sedgefield Country Club hosts the 87th edition of North Carolina's oldest Tour event. The math is simple: finish inside the top 70 in FedEx Cup points or go home.

Jackson Koivun clings to the final spot, while Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama, and Brooks Koepka headline a field full of players fighting for their playoff lives. Defending champion Cameron Young torched this place at 22 under last year, matching the tournament scoring record.
