Hovland wins Tour Championship, secures back-to-back Playoff victories and $18 Million in winnings

Viktor Hovland dominated the field to win the Tour Championship on Sunday, posting a final-round score of 63 and an overall tournament score of -27. Accounting for his -8 in starting strokes, Hovland shot -19 over the 72-hole tournament.

Playing in the final pairing with Viktor, Xander Schauffele put up an admirable fight of his own — shooting a 62 on Sunday and posting an unadjusted -19 for the tournament as well. Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t enough to overcome the 6-shot deficit he began the day with.

The win marks the 6th of Hovland’s career on the PGA Tour and his third this season. He now has earned full exemption status on the PGA Tour through the 2028 season, among many other things.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE

For the first time in PGA Tour History, two players posted back-to-back victories of their own, over a four-week span.

The rare accomplishments of Lucas Glover and Viktor Hovland throughout August highlight just how hard it is to win once on Tour, let alone twice in a row.

USA Captain Zach Johnson must now choose his six highly anticipated captain’s picks to join him and the other six automatic qualifiers in Rome at the end of September. With more deserving players than remaining spots, there will surely be some drama regarding his decision.

What will he value most? Will it be previous Ryder Cup experience, official world golf rankings, tour affiliation, team chemistry, or recent tournament success? We’ll get our first look at Team USA and find out the answers to these questions when Johnson announces his captain’s picks on Tuesday.
